Q&A With One of South Carolina’s Leading Women in Business

Aug 04, 2022

A strategic communicator, creative thinker, and skilled collaborator – are words our Afaxys team uses to describe Staci Gouveia, our Senior Director of Corporate Communications and Public Relations!

We’re proud to announce Staci was named one of South Carolina’s Leading Women in Business. The award honors selected businesswomen across South Carolina based on career achievements, contributions to their company, and community involvement, so we sat down with Staci to see what she has in store at Afaxys.

Q: Staci, first off, congratulations! Can you tell us a little bit about your role at Afaxys and the work that you do?

A: Thank you! I’m humbled and honored to have received this recognition along with 50 other outstanding ladies in business across South Carolina. I am the Senior Director of Corporate Communications and Public Relations at Afaxys, which means I define the strategy and manage the internal and external Communications for the company.

My work is centered on building Afaxys into a well-known industry leader by increasing awareness of the company, its mission, and vision, as well as building authentic brand equity. I serve as a company influencer educating stakeholders on Afaxys’ mission, core values, and offerings. I’ve been focused on refining our narrative, building our digital assets, and enhancing our social media through LinkedIn as well as elevating internal communications.

Q: That’s remarkable, and you’ve leaned into a lot with only the year and a half under your belt at Afaxys! Can you talk a little bit about your background; what led you to Afaxys and working in this space?

A: I’ve been drawn to healthcare since the start of my career in the 90s. I wanted to do something where I was truly making a difference. Afaxys’ focus on partnering with providers to ensure affordable access to contraception for women in public health was a perfect fit. I’ve always believed that having control over your reproductive health, including having unencumbered access to contraception, opens the door to economic freedom, which we know has long-term benefits for children and their families. That belief is what initially drew me to Afaxys, yet the state of women’s healthcare in America today, combined with my spirited colleagues, is what’s keeping me here.

Prior to Afaxys, my experience has been leading or contributing to both U.S. and Global Communications teams driving forward Corporate and Commercial initiatives for human and animal health companies.

Q: We’re lucky to have you! Thank you, Staci, for sharing your insights. I think our last question here would be what’s next? What can we keep an eye out for on the Afaxys communications front

A: I am spearheading a couple of exciting initiatives for 2023 and beyond that will continue to showcase Afaxys as a leader in the sexual and reproductive space and as an employer of choice. I encourage everyone to keep an eye on our media center and LinkedIn page to be among the first to know what’s new and exciting at Afaxys.
